Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 June 2026. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Who we are

An Inkling of You ("we", "us") makes personalised children's books. For the purposes of UK data protection law, the data controller is An Inkling of You, based in the United Kingdom. You can reach us about anything in this policy at aninklingofyou@gmail.com.

What we collect

The child's photograph and information

We only ever receive a child's photo and details from you, the adult placing the order. By uploading a photograph you confirm you are that child's parent or guardian, or have their parent or guardian's permission to share it for this purpose. We treat children's images as sensitive and limit who can access them to making and checking your book.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

How the artwork is made

To paint your child into the story, the photograph is processed through an AI image tool that we operate. The image is used solely to generate your book's artwork. It is not used to train AI models, and we do not permit our tool providers to use it for their own model training. We do not sell or share photographs for advertising or any unrelated purpose.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of trusted providers purely to run the service. They act on our instructions:

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards required by UK data protection law, such as approved standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep the child's photograph only as long as needed to make and deliver your book, and to handle any reprint or complaint, after which it is deleted. We keep basic order records (not the photo) for as long as we need to for accounting and legal reasons. You can ask us to delete the photograph sooner at any time.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to: give you a copy of your data; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email aninklingofyou@gmail.com and we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
